“If anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also;” Matthew 5:38

How do you change a system of violence and revenge? Somebody has to decide not to retaliate, not to give as good as they get. The only way to stop tit for tat is for someone to take the hit and choose not to hit back. That is the Christian way. That is the way of the cross. We take the hit and we choose not to hit back. More than that Jesus says we are to love even our enemies. I think it is perhaps the most Christian thing to do. Someone asked me the other day if there is any real difference between being a Christian and every one else. Turning the other cheek and loving the enemy is a distinctive that could change this world.
